Stop Saying The Coronavirus Is God's Judgement On Humanity

Just stop it.

I’ve been scrolling through Facebook for the last few days and am seeing post after post after post insisting that the Coronavirus is God’s judgement on humanity.

I’ve seen Bible verses quoted.

I’ve seen seen declarations made.

I’ve seen quotes from old “prophetic books” from the 70’s and 80’s that claim to see in the future a time when a deadly virus would attack the world as a sign of Jesus’ soon-to-be Second Coming.

I even saw one person say that the Coronavirus can be blamed on the LGBTQ community who refuse to “repent” of their sin and because of “them” and “their sin” we all need to suffer.

Holy **** people!

Please, stop with this crap. Stop weaponizing God and stop weaponizing the Bible to create fear and to shame people who don’t believe the same things as you do.

99.99999% of these posts come from conservative evangelical people who sit on their high horses mounted up on their Systematic Theology books and End Times propaganda, Christians who believe certain things about Jesus and God and believe that if others don’t believe the same way that they do that those “unbelievers” will be thrown into hell forever, smothered by God’s judgement, and “left behind” after some imaginary, nightmare rapture that isn’t found anywhere in the Bible.

I mean, do you want to evangelize? Fine. Do you believe it’s your role to tell people about Jesus and see them converted? Great, I used to as well. Do you believe all the things I said in the previous paragraph? Super. But you can do all of those things without being a complete jerk to the entire online universe.

Newsflash: God isn’t mad.

How do I know that? Because Jesus is the exact representation of God and when I look at Jesus I don’t see a God who is angry, I don’t see a God who is full of judgement, I don’t see a God who is tossing people into hell, I don’t see a God who is unleashing viruses on the planet because he’s so deeply offended by the lives of his creation.

In fact, if Jesus DID COME to represent THAT kind of God, then he did a pretty freaking lousy job at it and should be fired.

RATHER.

In Jesus I see a God of compassion.

In Jesus I see a God of love.

In Jesus I see a God of forgiveness.

In Jesus I see a God of mercy.

In Jesus I see a God who never gives up on his creation.

In Jesus I see a God who is always present with her creation.

Yes.

And so what I wanted to share with those of you who are freaked out by the state of our world and full of fear of “maybe this really is the end” and “maybe God really is mad at me and everyone else” … I wanted to tell you that he’s not mad, he’s not angry, this isn’t God’s judgement; he’s not out to kill anyone, he’s not out to punish anyone.

AND.

He’s here with you as a Father.

She’s holding us close as a Mother.

They are walking with all of us in the midst of this mess, being whatever we need Them to be.

Why doesn’t God stop it? I don’t know. Maybe he can’t. What do I know? I’m not God. What I do know, though, is that God is here with us. We are never alone. God is so big that we live inside of him and she’s so small that she lives inside of us.

Much love to you.

Wash your hands.

Be mindful of your neighbor.

Show some extra love.

Leave some toilet paper for everyone else.

And, Namaste.
