A Poem About Being Outcast

“You’ll see greater things than this”, you said.

BUT.

All I have to show for is another refill of meds.

You said the things I saw would be greater.

INSTEAD.

I’m surrounded by an army of haters.

You said I’d see angels going up and down.

BUT.

All I see are demons all around.

The ladder to heaven that you said I’d see

Is far too steep to climb for me.

I’m tired and lost and wandering in the dark

As the church I loved tells me how I’ve missed their mark.

BUT.

I will continue to follow the way of the Christ

No matter how steep the price.
